Clinical interests:
Brain tumours (neuro-oncology including skull base and pituitary). This includes tumours arising primarily in the brain as well as cancers that have spread to the brain and working closely with oncologists and radiotherapists at the Royal Marsden Hospital.
Back pain and sciatica as well as neck and arm pain. Slipped discs and spinal stenosis. Surgery is usually not necessary but a full assessment and management plan arranged in association with physiotherapy or pain management teams.
Paediatric conditions of the brain and spine including injuries, back pain, spina bifida, shunts and tumours.

Mr Stapleton has been a consultant neurosurgeon at the Atkinson Morley Hospital for over 20 years where he has a large NHS practice. He trained in neurosurgery at the National Hospital, Queen Square, Great Ormond Street Hospital and at the Sick Children’s Hospital, Toronto and the Montreal Neurological Institute, Canada. He has been an examiner in neurosurgery for the Royal College of Surgeons for many years. He has published on a wide range of neurosurgical topics including skull base tumours, brain abscess and spinal disorders in children.
