Extracorporeal Shock Wave Therapy (ESWT)

Extracorporeal Shock Wave Therapy (ESWT) is a non-invasive procedure for which no anaesthetic, medication or surgery is required.  It uses sound waves to stimulate the healing process and the technique is approved by NICE.

Why choose ESWT?

  • No anaesthetic
  • Non-invasive
  • No medication
  • No surgery
  • Fast treatment
  • Fewer complications
  • Virtually painless after treatment
  • Quick recovery and results

Which conditions can ESWT treat?

  • Tennis elbow / golfer’s elbow
  • Shoulder tendinopathy, especially calcific tendinitis
  • Trochanteric bursitis (jumper’s knee)
  • Shin splints
  • Achilles tendinopathy
  • Plantar fasciitis

How does it work?

A shock wave is generated by the machine and is transmitted through the body tissue to provide pain relief.  Benefits are usually felt after three to four sessions and may negate the need for surgery or other therapies.

How much does ESWT cost?

ESWT treatment is covered under some private medical insurance policies.  Package prices are available for patients paying directly for their own treatment.
