Vaginal Surgery

Is vaginal surgery right for you?

Due to ageing or childbirth, the muscles of the vagina can become stretched and weak, causing discomfort, embarrassment and distress for many women. It can also lead to sexual issues due to the loss of sensitivity.

Vaginal surgery, or vaginoplasty, can help to remedy this issue by tightening the muscles and surrounding tissue of the vaginal area. Another common form of vaginal surgery is labiaplasty which reshapes and reduces the appearance of the labia.

If you think vaginal surgery could be beneficial to you, contact our experienced medical team. We can offer sensitive advice on your personal situation and help you make the decision about whether vaginal surgery is right for you.

What will happen during the procedure?

The exact form of surgery will depend on the results you want to achieve. Vaginoplasty focuses on reducing any excess vaginal lining and reconstructing the stretched muscles, and for this procedure, a general anaesthetic is typically administered. Labiaplasty focuses on reducing the size or prominence of the labia by trimming away excess tissue. Your surgeon will talk through all the options to ensure you are fully comfortable with the procedure.

After vaginal surgery

In vaginal surgery, every effort is made to prevent scarring on the labia and all incisions are closed with dissolvable stitches. However, you can expect some swelling and soreness in the days following your operation so we advise taking at least a week off to allow yourself to heal.

Be sure to avoid penetrative sex for several weeks to minimise the risk of infection and refrain from strenuous physical activity.
