Qualified at University of Leeds in 1985 then undertook surgical training in Manchester. Research Fellow at University of Louisville, United States and then Senior Registrar at Chelsea and Westminster Hospital, London. Appointed Consultant Colorectal Surgeon at Kingston Hospital in 1997 and have developed wide experience of colorectal surgery.
