Orthopaedic surgeons hone their skills at Parkside Private Hospital

A 19-tonne mobile simulation truck equipped with the latest medical technology has arrived at Parkside Private Hospital this week. Over the next four weeks around 30 orthopaedic surgeons will hone their skills and learn new surgical techniques.

The Arthrex Mobile Surgical Skills Lab offers a spacious and comfortable working environment for surgeons to practice their work in a safe and convenient setting.

The high-tech ‘MobileLab’ also enables theatre and physiotherapy staff to be trained on-site, which means they can receive practical training and share best practice without having to leave their hospital site.

The MobileLab has two arthroscopic workstations and an ‘open table’ space for other procedures.

This means that surgeons can practice common shoulder and knee operations, such as ‘keyhole’ surgery, as well as more complex procedures such as anterior cruciate ligament and meniscal repairs.

The MobileLab has arrived at Parkside Hospital, which is recognised for its expertise in orthopaedics and sport exercise medicine, providing the entire patient pathway under one roof.

Parkside Hospital has been supporting the NHS and local communities for over seven months. Since March, the hospital has been delivering time-critical and urgent operations for NHS patients, a variety of outpatients clinics, providing life-saving ventilators and anaesthetic equipment, and carrying out vital diagnostics tests.

The MobileLab will be at Parkside Private Hospital until mid-November.
