Massage Therapy

Massage Therapy is commonly used to manage soft tissue tension and tightness, and encourage whole body relaxation. It helps improve movement, heat and circulation across the area of treatment. Massage can be used on its own or as part of an overall treatment plan. It’s suitable for anyone who wants to restore and improve their range of movement in muscles and joints, for flushing out excess lactic acid, or simply as a form of relaxation to lower stress.

There are two types of Massage Therapy provided at Parkside: Sports Massage and Swedish Massage. All massages are performed by one of our fully qualified Therapists.

Sports Massage

Sports Massage is a deep tissue intensive massage, using traditional techniques and gentle manipulation of the body to boost circulation and relieve muscular aches and pains. It promotes a sense of wellbeing and balance, helping to relax the body and mind. A regular course of Sports Massage treatment could particularly benefit you if you’ve just had an operation and need support during your recovery.

Massage is important for its ability to promote the flow of blood and lymph and aiding in the elimination of toxic wastes which are often the cause of muscles aches and pains. Massage increases the flow of oxygen to the painful areas while removing stagnant toxic waste such as lactic acid and carbonic acid which build up in the muscle tissue.

Massage can be effective in the management of musculoskeletal conditions but also:

  • Promotes muscle relaxation
  • Helps loosen scar tissue
  • Improves muscle and fascia flexibility
  • Relieves muscles spasm
  • Reduces oedema
  • Helps with long standing postural faults

Clinic times:

Tuesday 16.30 – 20.00 (Annabelle Ingham)

Swedish Massage

Swedish Massage is one of the most well-known and commonly used types of Therapeutic Massage, promoting emotional wellbeing. It can also have medical benefits and help muscle tissue to heal. This is due to its ability to push excess tissue fluid out from affected areas and reduce swelling.

Swedish Massage techniques range from calming, gentle and slow, up to firm and energetic to awaken the senses.
