Care of the elderly (geriatric medicine)
Growing older and the loss of strength, fitness or mobility aren’t necessarily related. Should you or a relative fall ill at a more mature age complications can sometimes present themselves. At Parkside Hospital, we have expert Physicians who specialise in healthcare for older people and the elderly. We also diagnose, treat and lessen the effect of Parkinson’s Disease, memory loss, trips and falls and Dementia.
EMG Studies
Electromyography (EMG) is the study of electrical activity within the muscles. Testing can identify Epilepsy, muscle and nerve problems, and other general neurological conditions. Read more about EMG studies at Parkside Hospital.
Faecal Incontinence
Incontinence is most widely assumed to be urinary, yet faecal incontinence is common in both men and women and can be effectively treated without the need for surgery. We perform holistic, therapeutic treatments to improve muscle function, and can also give you medication and counselling if it’s needed.
High Dependency Unit
The High Dependency Unit (HDU) at Parkside Hospital offers four beds for dedicated level two care. If you need more personal care, but are well enough not to attend an emergency unit, you may benefit from the High Dependency Unit’s support. Click here to read more about our High Dependency Unit.
Parkside Hospital at Putney

Pathology Services
Pathology is the in-depth study and diagnosis of bodily diseases, including in the blood, organs and skin. Our Pathology Department is accredited by United Kingdom Accreditation Service (UKAS) and is led by a Consultant Pathologist. Podiatry
As a different branch of medicine to Chiropody, Podiatry focuses on the function of the foot and the way you walk. We diagnose and treat flat feet, fallen arches, heel pain and walking problems, complications from Arthritis and Diabetes, and a number of other conditions. The specialist Podiatrist Team at our Outpatient Department is supported by Radiologists, Orthopaedic Surgeons, Rheumatologists and Physiotherapists.
Post-op Physiotherapy
A Consultant may visit you on the ward after your operation, to talk through Physiotherapy and following treatments. Where appropriate, we also consult at Physiotherapy outpatient clinics. For more information on post-operative treatments at Parkside Hospital, click here.
Pre-op Assessment
Before you have elective surgery, you’ll be invited to a private Physiotherapy appointment by one of the Consultants at Parkside. We’ll talk through your post-op goals and advise you on the most suitable treatments for rehabilitation. Find out more about our assessments.

Sterile Services
Medical legislation means that any decontaminated instruments reused in surgeries and clinics must be traced back to specific cleaning cycles and processes. Dietetic Services
Our dietetic service is led by resident dietitian Michelle Bremang with support from her colleague Christina Merryfield. Our dietitians work closely with a range of Consultants as well as the wider multidisciplinary team to help improve the recovery process, clinical symptoms and nutritional status of both inpatients and outpatients.
